I first took one of Jim’s tours several years ago, when my daughter and I were touring Ireland. Since that time I have taken several more of his tours, to various locations. In fact, taking one of Jim’s tours, should be an ‘not to be missed’ item on the agenda for anyone visiting Ireland.
This one day tour takes you from Belfast to Irelands “Valley of the Kings” in Co Meath. You get to visit and tour Bru na Boinne (Irish meaning Palace/mansion of the Boyne). This area on the dramatic loop in the river Boyne that lies between the towns of Slane and Drogheda, is one of the most important ancient landscapes in the world and is dominated by the prehisytoric passage tombs of Newgrange, Knowth and Dowth and are at least 5000 years old. Newgrange the best known of these Irish passage tombs is surrounded by a kerb 97 stones the most impressive is the entrance stone to the massive mound that covers a single tomb walking inside following a single long passage into a long cross chamber with the remains of two smaller burials and possibly two more to the east you enter the enigmatic inner chamber that is eliminated by the rising sun on the shortest day of the year the 21st December the winter solstice and really to say more would just be a spoiler to what is a true wonder!
I will pick you up at your Hotel, bed and breakfast or any tourist accommodation, Belfast Co Antrim area including Belfast port Larne port or Belfast international airport, Belfast George best city airport.
Traveling one and a half hours from Belfast by motorway to the prehistoric tombs at Newgrange, you get to spend as much time as your party require at this stunning ancient prehistoric site where you tour the tombs of Knowth Newgrange and Dowth from the visitor centre (irish government guides at venue with in-depth specialist knowledge tour you around the tombs )after a short stroll to venue bus from visitor centre.
